The lighting project follows the complete restoration of Plaza Mistral aimed at upgrading the entire area in the heart of Santiago in Chile. The square is immensely important from the historical and social point of view and it’s a place where families, sports enthusiasts and elderly people congregate to enjoy a panorama of the entire city in the shade of the many native trees surrounding it. A small amphitheatre where musical performances come to life and a children’s playground full of ancient reminders of the past, make this square an excellent entertainment space for young and old.
It is in this context with important structures and existing lights that the lighting project came to life. The lights were positioned at unreachable heights so as not to have them within the reach of the many children that play in the area. Projectors with focused lenses positioned on two different levels of four and nine metres designed to light the entire ground surface, the trees and a fountain located in the centre of one of the areas in the large square.
The only exception are the step lights that light the agora in the Plaza Games Gabriela Mistral area with its central fountain decorated with mosaics by the Chilean artist Federico Assler. At night the plaza becomes a magical place with beautiful, suggestive shadow effects that animate the green area and the many coloured elements that populate the square.
