The Florence-based Group arrives in Venice to light the work by British architects Branson and Coates.
La Biennale di Venezia - the 7th International Architecture Exhibition opened on June the 18th, directed by Massimiliano Fuksas, with the central theme of the exhibition being, Citta: Less Aesthetics, more Ethics. The theme presents debate on the new social and urban context and the architects commitment as intellectuals. The British Council invited four prominent Architectural practises from London, Branson Coates, Zaha Hadid, Allsop & Stormer and Chipperfield. Targetti Lighting had the privilege of being invited to work with Branson Coates Architects on their Installation Ecstacity. Branson Coats have consistently pitched theory against practice, the motive against the pragmatic, this shows in their recent work, such as the National Centre for popular Music, the Geffrye Museum and the Body Zone at the millennium Dome. "The Venice Biennale - comments Nigel Coates - is an important forum for architectural ideas, and we are delighted to have been selected by the British council to participate. Especially in Venice there is a wondrous vibrant quality that you seek in every great, living city, in which the inhabitants and the visitors are compelled to explore all the different layers of contemporary culture. Ecstacity expresses that sensual attitude to everyday life" 'For our installation - continues Coates - we want each of the components to float in a shadowy space. We were delighted when Targetti offered to help achieve this by lighting the show. Their attention to our needs has given the space exactly the magic we were after.' Targetti worked with Branson Coates to create a theatrical environment using the Smarthead with the AR111 lamp, mixing the 24 and 4 degree beams.
