TARGETTI “doubles in size”:
the Florence-based company acquires Denmark’s LOUIS POULSEN
Targetti Sankey SpA has just signed an agreement to purchase one of the most prestigious European companies operating in the high range lighting sector, Denmark’s Louis Poulsen Lighting A/S. With a turnover of 111 million Euros, 570 employees and a collection of luminaires which have made their unmistakable mark on the history of lighting design, this company from Copenhagen is internationally recognized as one of the undisputed protagonists of the indoor and extérieur architectural lighting sector.
Having acquired 92.5% of Louis Poulsen, with an overall investment of around 155.4 million Euros, Targetti (consolidated turnover 2006: 176.9 million Euros) continues to grow and now, on the eve of the 80th anniversary of its establishment and the 10th anniversary of its listing on the Stock Market, it has made its most important acquisition. This is a huge dimensional leap forward as well as a further boost to the company’s internationalization: in fact, Targetti, has noticeably increased its competitive position on a continental level, becoming one of the three most important European players in the field of architectural lighting.
This purchase will make it possible to realize numerous synergies of a commercial as well as an industrial nature thanks to the geographically complementary position of the production plants and the markets served: in particular, it will be possible to expand Targetti’s presence on the North European market where Louis Poulsen Lighting already has a large market share, and consolidate its position in the United States and Japan, where Louis Poulsen is one of the leading independent operators.
“We believe that we have found the ideal partner,” says the managing director, Lorenzo Targetti, “in terms of management skills, competitive market position and product quality, as well as a series of complementary factors which could create significant value, at the end of the integration process”.
In fact, Targetti and Poulsen share a common approach to entrepreneurial discipline solidly rooted in ongoing investment in technological research, substantial attention to the esthetic and design values of the lamp-object (some Louis Poulsen creations by great designers such as Poul Henningsen and Arne Jacobsen, have become true icons of 20th century design) and a profound awareness of the importance of promoting and sustaining a cultural approach to the world of light.
Established in Florence in 1928, the Targetti Group is one of the protagonists of the indoor and extérieur architectural lighting industry on an international level. With its network of nine highly specialized companies, it is the ideal partner for architects and contractors and, over its eighty year history, has made a significant contribution to the world of light both in terms of technological innovation as well as consultancy skills. Targetti is responsible for lighting Michelangelo’s David, Leonardo’s Last Supper and Notre-Dame Cathedral; the Singapore Opera House and the airports of Madrid, Canton and Paris; the showrooms of Bulgari, Benetton, Celine and Diesel, and McLaren’s Formula 1 pits; the world’s most prestigious hotel chains and over 4,000 city centers. |
