Programme of courses for the year 2003

COURSES IN TECHNOLOGY AND LIGHTING DESIGN.
PROGRAMME FOR THE YEAR 2003

The reasons for illumination training courses are:
- the continuous technological development of lighting sources and of lighting products which allow innovative illumination solutions;
- the increasing awareness of the importance of lighting to enhance an architectural project through a correct visual perception.

Lighting is not therefore a technical problem, but it has become a chance in which practical knowledge must be accompany by the understanding of psychological and perceptive aspects. Training courses offer a bases for a more correct and creative use of indoor and outdoor lighting, focusing necessary technical knowledge on one end and putting participants in touch with successful professionals who are able to communicate their own experiences. Training activities are organized on two levels: Basic Courses and Workshops.

- Basic Courses: for all those who want to learn the fundamental concepts for a correct and effective use of light;
- Workshops: for all those who want to specialize in specific applications.

Teachers are university professors, researchers of the National Institute of Applied Optics, professionals members of the leading lighting designer associations, people from the national an international industries. At the end of the course a certificate of attendance will be issued to participants.

April, 23rd - 26th 2003
WORKSHOP NIGHT LANDSCAPE. With Louis Clair
LANGUAGE: English

GOAL: to provide participants with the right method to develop a lighting concept for a natural area included in a urban space.
TARGET: specialized professionals, lighting designers.
PERIOD: 36 hours divided in 4 days.
TOPICS: the workshop will be directed by the internationally recognized lighting designer Louis Clair, who will lead participants in the development of a lighting concept for a specific place: a natural area in a urban space . Visits to the selected place, the Park of the Cascine, the most important historical park in Florence, will be followed by work sections the foundation“s headquarter and the final presentation to the local authorities.
COST: 1000 Euros + VAT (20%). It includes didactic material, shuttle service to connect La Sfacciata to the selected place and to the centre of the city, meals.

BASIC INDOOR LIGHTING COURSE

Italian language
AIM: to provide a bases for a correct use of light indoors.
TARGET: students and non specialized professionals wanting to learn tools for a correct and effective use of light.
DURATION: 32 spread over 4 days.
TOPICS:
- Visual science
- Photometry
- Principles of lighting calculation
- Lighting sources and their characteristics
- Natural light: methods of evaluation and control
- Optical control
- Examples of planning
COST: 585 Euros VAT (20%). It includes didactic materials, lunches, shuttle service.

November 26th - 29th 2003

UTILITIES:

La Sfacciata Lighting Academy
The Foundation "La Sfacciata", operates as a research and training centre. The "Lighting Academy" educational programme, promoted by the Foundation and by Targetti Sankey S.p.A., includes Basic Courses and Workshops for a more correct and creative use of indoor and outdoor lighting.

Structure
- Basic Courses: dedicated to all people who want to learn the fundamental concepts for a correct and effective use of light.
- Workshops: dedicated to all professionals who want to specialize in specific applications.
The activities are intensive programmes with lessons in theory, laboratories in practical
applications and case histories.

Registration
Registrations are closed for 30 participants. Application should be submitted at least 15 days before the starting day of the course. The application form can be downloaded on line at

Participants will receive at the beginning of the course:
- Slides of the presentations
- Articles and information about each topic
- Bibliography

Working sessions
All courses follow this schedule 9.00 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. 2.00 p.m. - 6.00 p.m.
During the Night Landscape Workshop participants will visit the selected area also during the night. Every day will be organized two coffee breaks at 11.00 a.m. and at 4.00 p.m. and the Lunch at 1.00 p.m.

Headquarters
The Foundation is housed in Florence at Villa La Sfacciata, a 15th century Villa near the
Certosa monastery. It is located on a hill known as Giogoli, along one of the most ancient roads that used to cross the Old Florentine Republic.

Services
It is available the hotel booking service at least 15 days before the starting day of the courses. A shuttle services is available to transfer participants from the Hotel to La Sfacciata.

Cost
The entrance fee for the enrolment in the course has to be paid at the same moment of the application for admission with a money transfer as written in the subscription form.

Certificate of attendance
At the end of each course the certificate of attendance will be issued to participants.
