LEARNING TO DESIGN LIGHT:
FONDAZIONE TARGETTI PRESENTS THE LIGHTING ACADEMY 2007 PROGRAM
For ten years now, the Lighting Academy training program has been an international reference point for professionals in different fields who want to learn what they need to know to use light correctly and efficaciously. This year, the course fare will be enhanced with a new teaching formula that aims at achieving the best in the field of lighting technology and technique. Besides the traditional “basic courses” (designed to provide the basic concepts of lighting design), the 2007 training offer also includes two highly specialized “advanced courses” for expert professionals. These are “LIGHT AND ART” (targeting in-depth knowledge of conservation, protection, and valorization of historical-artistic assets) and “LIGHT AND COMMUNICATION” (centering on illumination of spaces for commercial uses and for entertainment and amusement).
All the courses will be held at Villa La Sfacciata, the splendid headquarters of the Fondazione Targetti in the Florentine hills, and will be taught by eminently qualified professionals working on the international scene as well as by university professors and researchers from the Istituto Nazionale di Ottica Applicata [National Institute of Applied Optics]. Our approach to training is interdisciplinary; that is, we don’t stop at theoretical and technical knowledge, but also explore cultural, psychological, and perception-related aspects of the “light factor.”
The program is designed for architects, engineers, lighting designers, and professionals working in the lighting technology sector. But not only: the training offer targets all those working in planning and design or involved in the decision making process relative to space planning.
In order to encourage participation by professionals and students, each course (at a standard fee, for a limited number of students) will offer an intensive program (full immersion for a maximum of 4 days) including classroom lessons, laboratory work, case studies presented by expert designers and planers, and final tests.

FONDAZIONE TARGETTI was created by Targetti Sankey SpA to promote, support, and develop the culture of light and lighting, art, and architecture. The foundation is a hub where exposition, integration, and comparison of ideas and cultural exchanges create a network of professional excellence, where knowledge and skills that are normally the purview of single fields of research are shared. Besides the Lighting Academy training program, the foundation’s work develops through complementary initiatives like the light portal www.lightingacademy.org (a true digital magazine abounding in news and scientific articles), the Osservatorio sull’Architettura (a cycle of meetings dedicated to the most interesting protagonists of contemporary architecture), and the Targetti Light Art Collection (a collection of works of art created by internationally renowned artists using artificial light as their medium). |
