Targetti Light Art Collection Award fifth edition

“We refuse to think that art and science belong to different worlds
and that the achievements of the former don’t belong to the ones of the latter.
Artists anticipate the scientific achievements,
scientific achievements always cause artistic achievements”
(Lucio Fontana, Manifesto Spaziale, 1947)

In order to promote young artists’ creativity and to make people aware of the amazing emotional power of artificial light, Targetti (the Italian Company working since 1928 in the field of architectural lighting) presents the fifth edition of the TARGETTI LIGHT ART AWARD, a biennial international competition open to up-and-coming artists under the age of 40. Participants are asked to ideate and create a work of art using artificial light as an instrument and content.

Whilst observing certain formal criteria, the artists may use any lighting material and technology, as well as availing themselves of specialist advice from Targetti’s technicians in order to optimise the expressive potential of light in their work.
The participants may choose to compete in the “Light Works” category - installations on a 120x120 cm vertical support -  or in the “Light Sculptures” category - plastic indoor or outdoor works on a horizontal support.

To participate it is necessary sending the design of the work to be entered in the competition, i.e.: a model of the work on a paper support and detailed specifications of the technical characteristics and structural material by July 6ht 2007.

The winner will receive a first prize of 10,000 € and the runners-up, two second prizes of 5,000 € (one for each category.
Furthermore, the works will become part of the TARGETTI LIGHT ART COLLECTION (the most important European collection exclusively dedicated to Light Art) and will be included in its catalogue and travelling exhibition program.

The works will be judged by a prestigious jury composed by Amnon Barzel (artistic director of the Targetti Light Art Collection), Omar Calabrese (semeiologist), Alessandra Mammì (art critic, L’Espresso magazine), Peter Noever (director of the MAK, Wien), David Sarkisian (director of the MUAR, Moscow) and Paolo Targetti (president of Targetti).

Full information related to the rules for participating are availabl here or can be received by writing to artlight@targetti.it.
