Targetti and the Lighting Design Academy together at the Amsterdam Light Festival (1.12.2016-22.1.2017) Even in art, as in life it is often a question of point of view. At the Amsterdam Light Festival, the light and creativity event held in December until 22 January 2017, residents and tourists can have a spectacular demonstration. Among the artists, architects and lighting designers scattered around the city for the occasion there is one that emphasises the importance of perspective on our perception of things.

It is called Welcome to my home (town) and it was created by the Lighting Design Academy with the support of Targetti. Not a simple sponsorship but a real partnership between the lighting designer in charge of the project and technicians from the Italian company.

The result is a composite installation made up of five three-dimensional houses made out of light–that at first glance seem to float, suspended just a few centimetres above the river Amstel. However if you change perspective you realise they are in fact two dimensional and the optical illusion is created by the combination of different while lines of light. As you get closer the shapes change, the luminous lines appear to be large then small, untied then fixed, disappear and then form a picture that becomes a sculpture.

The installation, located along the exhibition route Water Colors, can be admired from boats in service on the Amstel, and from the river bank. In both cases the beauty lies in moving and changing perspective to appreciate the changing image of a work of art that is very challenging as well as being extremely conceptual. At the basis is Einstein’s law of relativity, the principle according to which each of us influences what we see by the simple fact of looking at it. Well, Welcome to my home (town) suggests the idea that by observing each one of us can change the image and the essence of the city itself: different perspectives and different experiences.

In this project the skills and reliability of Targetti played an important role. The company supplied more than 200 meters of LED BELT in record time, these highly efficient LED light strips are perfect for outdoor applications. They are all made by Targetti including the DALI power supply and the remote control light system based on Casambi Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology which was an integral part of the installation creation.
