After more than a century since the start of its construction the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Grenoble has been restored to its former glory. A complex restoration project in fact uncovered its original design, eliminated extraneous elements, completed the internal façades by inserting spectacular stained glass windows and assigned a key-role to both natural and artificial lighting.

Targetti worked extremely closely with the Agence Lumière team to really show the entire Basilica complex in all its glory and to light not only the church itself, but the large spaces created within it for diocesan services.

Recessed adjustable LED technology CLOUD projectors were installed in the 26 meter high ceiling to light the wide central aisle. Others were integrated into wall lamps that were specially designed for the project and positioned on the above the nave for indirect lighting. The overall effect of the lighting systems is not only to enhance the architectural features inside but also to create alternative light effects for various liturgical occasions.
