LA VERGINE CON IL BAMBINO BY GIOVANNI BELLINI
The cultural project “Luce su Giovanni Bellini” pays tribute to one of the leading figures in Italian renaissance painting on the fifth centenary of his death.
Sponsored by the Polo Museale del Veneto and the Region of Venice and coordinated by Fondaco Italia, the cultural project “Luce su Giovanni Bellini” pays tribute to one of the leading figures in Italian renaissance painting on the fifth centenary of his death.
Also known as Giambellino, Bellini was a refined, innovative interpreter of his time. During his artistic career the incisiveness of drawing soon gave way to an unparalleled search for light and colour which was the beginning of the era of great Venetian painting.

Targetti was given the honour of lighting one of his masterpieces, Virgin and Child with Saints John the Baptist, Francis, Jerome and Sebastian and kneeling Donor, painted by the artist in 1507 which now hangs in the Sacristy of the church of San Francesco della Vigna in Venice.

The lighting, designed in collaboration with Father Gianmatteo Caputo, Patriarchal Delegate to Cultural Heritage and the supervision of Daniele Ferrara, Director of the Polo Museale del Veneto, is the result of meticulous and attentive teamwork.
The idea was to highlight the central image of the Madonna without penalising the figures of the Saints and the Donor Giacomo Dolfin. It was important to ensure a good view of the landscape which was so important to the artist while enhancing the sense of the painting’s own light without losing sight of the deep relationship with the context where the altarpiece is displayed.

To reach these objective recessed CLOUD MINI projectors equipped with LED Vivid optics and mechanical zoom were chosen. These fixtures were inserted into a structure that was specially made for the project and positioned in front of the altar where the masterpiece hangs.
The characteristics of the LED sources chosen made it possible to light the altarpiece to highlight both the chromatic fullness and the sense of three-dimensionality with startling realism. This is a small yet precious project that enhances the role of light as a means of expression and as a way of preserving and protecting art itself.
