Targetti joins the world of art and culture in morning the untimely death of the sculpture Igor Mitoraj, who died yesterday in Paris at the age of seventy. Originally from Poland he had lived in the French capital since the 70s, but spent many months of the year in the Tuscan city of Pietrasanta where he had opened a studio and created a special bond with the region and its institutions.
His unique style had always stood out in contemporary sculpture; his classic figures tragically brought down to our day and age expressed the fragility of modern man; it was his way of expressing the present.
He used to say: "I live today and this is my way of expressing it".
A great artist that we had the honour of meeting during the preparation of his last major exhibition “The Angels of Mitoraj”; the first time a “monographic” exhibition had been held in the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa, that Targetti had the privilege of lighting and that thousands of people visited to pay fitting tribute to the great sculpture.
