With over 1600 rooms, the Marriott Marquis is the largest hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Its enviable position and contemporary style make it an ideal location for conferences and meetings. An enormous sail illuminated with dynamic coloured lights characterises the cocktail lounge of the atrium, making it the city's No. 1 night spot.
The American lighting designer Paul Helms assigned the task of lighting the common areas of the hotel to a Targetti recessed fixture, used extensively in all the transit areas, as well as the large Sear Restaurant on the ground floor and the spacious conference halls, including the Imperial ballroom which can also be used for receptions and elegant soirées. It consists of SLOT, a fixture specifically designed for lighting vertical surfaces thanks to the special optical system that allows obtaining very uniform wall-washer light effects.
They are installed in the ceiling near the entrances of the different rooms, near the lifts and atrium to emphasise the surfaces that, in the architectural project, resemble stage wings. In the restaurant, these fixtures were also mounted on the ground to light some walls from the bottom and to “reinforce” the light provided by a series of other Targetti fixtures: KR1 multi-optical adjustable recessed projectors in the version with 2X module were used here. Among the other products selected for the project was ILLUMILINE, a linear LED system that beautifully sets off the special textures of the stone walls, turning them into a real decorative element.
