City: Lystrup
Country: Denmark
Architectural Design: VKR Holding
In 2008, the parent company of VELUX and VELFAC, VKR Holding initiated the construction of eight demonstration homes in a number of European countries along the lines of the Active House principles. The houses generate their own energy from the sun and, as examples of smart buildings, are characterized by low energy consumption, healthy indoor climates and exciting architecture. This house in Lystrup, Denmark, is a breathtaking and aesthetic piece of architecture proving beyond doubt that even though energy savings and functionality are high on the agenda, new houses need not have small windows contributing to the elegant indoor atmosphere during the hours of daylight by allowing extremely beautiful influx of light. As for the right atmosphere during the dark hours of the day, Targetti and Louis Poulsen were selected as lighting partners for the project.
The idea was to create a plus/minus lighting solution, i.e. spending a little more on areas requiring additional attention to atmosphere and colors rendition and a little less on areas where colors rendition has lower priority, while focus in on, for instance, orientation. Light sources offering close to 30% energy savings compared to conventional light sources were used. For exterior lighting have been chosen light sources with an Ra value of approx. 80 as this value is sufficient to make plants and flowers look as life like as possible. Light-emitting diodes (LED) area becoming increasingly popular for exterior lighting, and the indirect illumination under the deck is Targetti ILLUMILINE LED fixture. The lighting solution showcases Targetti and Louis Poulsen fixtures, such as the Esedra BOOM by Targetti, Targetti FLUSH, and the Louis Poulsen AEROS pendant.
