Located a few kilometres from the Rhone Valley, the small village of Montseveroux still retains its feudal castle. Probably built between the late thirteenth century and early fourteenth century, the building has a square layout, four circular towers and a gate-tower with a drawbridge in the middle of the west facade. Since 1864 the castle has belonged to the municipality and houses the town hall, school, banquet hall and library.
This monumental building was recently involved in a lighting project designed by the French lighting designer, Philippe Hutinet, which gave it a night-time identity that was previously missing. The external light fixtures of the castle are all Targetti, including those illuminating the large open courtyard accessed from the gate-tower. In particular, the Hutinet Agency opted for a series of LINEOS fixtures for fluorescent lamps. Adjustable linear fixtures were used to create continuous lines of light, ideal for the graze lighting of the facades to emphasise the textures and materials. They were mainly installed in the courtyard under the roof, along all four sides, to effectively draw attention to the original ashlar of the walls.
