Discrete lighting that assists the visual experience of visitors, that by integrating with natural daylight emphasises the typical chromaticity of the LEGO bricks.
The LEGO House in Billund, designed by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), was built in the heart of Billund in the area that was once home to the old Town Hall.
The architectural concept solidly transposes the idea and essence of LEGO. The building is made of 21 blocks placed one on top of the other with the façade covered in bricks and the eight skylights on the roof recall the joints of LEGO bricks. On the ground floor the building is built around a public space of 2000 m², the LEGO Square, an urban space where daylight and sunlight filter in through the cracks and the spaces between the blocks. Also on the ground floor there are three restaurants, a LEGO store and an auditorium. The real heart of the building are the Experience zones that are home to four play areas, a gallery of LEGO models and an exhibition on the history of the Brand.
The lighting project was designed by Jesper Kongshaug Lighting Design and uses Targetti fixtures.
The lighting in the Experience Zones and the LEGO Square was designed to create an involving experience. Recessed fixtures from the CCTLED Architectural range and LEDO’ projectors equipped with different optical systems and beam openings to meet the various requirements of the lighting designers were used to manage and control the play of light, shade and colour in the best way. All the high colour rendering LED fixtures to emphasise the coloured bricks were supplied with RAL finish that was specifically requested by LEGO.
