The lighting of the Fortress of the Borgias – also known as the Castle of Nepi – is part of an accurate recovery project coordinated by the Archaeological Superintendency of Lazio. Even though some of its parts, including the elegant apartments, have been irreparably damaged, the restoration works brought them back to their original charm and dignity, which was also made possible by a clever lighting system that offers a stunning view at night.
ICARE CLASSIC floor recessed lights with 70 and 100 Watt sodium light bulbs were used to illuminate the outside walls and towers, while professional PYROS projectors with metallic halide light bulbs of various capacities were chosen for the outside courts, placed on frames along the perimeter walls: resulting in a low visual impact for a truly spectacular lighting effect.
The various internal areas of the court were illuminated by ICARE cool-touch halide lights placed in special containers on what remains of the original floors. This lighting system allowed overcoming the limitation deriving from the impossibility to insert any type of fixture into the vaulted brickwork of the rooms buried underneath. A lot of care went into the accent lighting of the central tower, well visible from the surrounding areas, which was created with ICARE cool-touch lights with narrow spot. NANO PYROS projectors and E-FORUM wall-mounted recessed lights were used in the underground rooms and pathways.
