"Tavola per l’altare del Volto Santo nella Basilica Vaticana” by Ugo da Carpi
In the evocative setting of the Medieval Court of Palazzo Madama in Turin, from June 16 to August 29 2022 it is possible to admire the “Tavola per l’altare del Volto Santo nella Basilica Vaticana” by Ugo da Carpi, an artwork that is the result of an audacious, ingenious and unprecedented experimentation, a unique piece of art of its kind, made with the technique of the overlapping matrix printing.
The collaboration between the Torino Musei Foundation and the Fabbrica di San Pietro in Vaticano, with the patronage of the Archdiocese of Turin, the technical contribution of Targetti Sankey and the support of Reale Mutua, offers visitors the opportunity to admire a piece of art of extraordinary technical and artistic interest and to appreciate the results of an articulated and complex study that has revealed the history and the almost 500 years old technique of execution of the work.

Designed by Architect Roberto Pulitani the exhibition guides the visitor along an educational path of gradual approach to the artwork, offering an immersive and dynamic reading. The lighting gives a fundamental support to the narrative thanks to the punctual and dynamic management of the light featured by the selected luminaires.
Projectors of the ZENO range, equipped with the DBS - Dynamic Beam Shaper – technology, are installed on the capitals of the columns and provide the overall lighting of the exhibition. The digital electronic control they are equipped with, allow to vary the beam angle and the levels of illumination to create dynamic lighting scenarios that support the story and facilitate the reading of the details.

For the central panel "La Veronica tra i Santi Pietro e Paolo", and for the "Sindone” fresco placed in the upper lunette, ZENO NSP projectors with a very sharp and concentrated beam create light accents that give depth to the artworks without dazzling the observer thanks to the indirect light emission system.

The exhibition brings together artworks from the Uffizi in Florence, the Royal Museums of Turin, the Fabbrica di San Pietro in Vaticano, the Museums of Palazzo dei Pio di Carpi, the National Central Library of Florence.
For illuminating these pieces of art, the adjustable projectors of the OZ system are perfectly integrated into the display structure inside the showcases. Characterized by their particularly small size, the light modules guarantee adequate levels of illumination, in full respect and protection of the artworks, allowing the visitor a complete and suggestive view of the exhibition.
The control system integrated in the light modules guarantees a dynamic wireless management of the light emissions.

The curation of the exhibition is by Pietro Zander.
