Carlo Pazolini Flagship Store, in Milan city center, sets a new course for the Italian footwear and accessories brand that already successfully operates in Russia and Eastern Europe. Realized with ecological and completely recyclable materials, the store overlooks piazza Cordusio with 11 windows. Giorgio Borruso was the eclectic Italian architect based in the U.S. who ‘signed’ the interior design, as well as many other award winning projects on retail sector.
The concept includes an undulating structure characterized by an original system of exposition shelves like multi-colored petals. The portion immediately opposite the entry, where is the cash desk, is completely white, its surface smooth and clean. Multi-colored seats, whose inspiration is the same as the ‘wall petals’, are placed centrally along the axis of the windows. Targetti was selected as a unique lighting supplier, in charge of the lighting of both the exposition and distributive area of the store and the windows on piazza Cordusio. The challenge was to illuminate the footwear and accessories in a punctual way, without interfering with the complex structure by Borruso. Besides, the brief of the client was to place the lighting fixtures into the ceiling in a seemingly casual manner.
Hence the natural choice was the extractible version of MAGMA recessed projector, a fixture able to ‘disappea’” into the ceiling – all projectors have been produced in white finishing specially for this project – and guarantee at the same time the maximum adjustability. Another of its pluses is the possibility to play with different beam angles. A very narrow beam, for instance, has been used to illuminate the footwear in the windows, whereas a wider beam has been preferred for lighting the upper part of the petals’ structure, where articles are normally not exposed. Adjustable PYROS projectors for RGB LED have been placed on the wall where are the windows. The purpose is to light the store during closing hours and night-time, but also in special occasions where colored light can become a strategic communication tool.
